SPAYING & NEUTERING
Spaying and neutering can prevent unwanted litters, help protect against some serious health problems, and may reduce many of the behavioral problems associated with the mating instinct in our family pets.
Spays (Ovariohysterectomies) and Neuters (Castrations) are performed under general anesthesia. A spay is recommended to prevent pregnancy, mammary cancer, and development of pyometra which is a life-threatening condition in which the uterus becomes infected and requires emergency surgery.
Neutering prevents pregnancy, may reduce aggression, helps prevent inappropriate marking, prevents testicular tumors, and prevents benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) in male dogs. Spaying or neutering your pet will benefit their long-term health and reduce the stray population.
LOVE SPAY
LOVE spay is short for Laparoscopic OVE (ovariectomy). With this technique , 2-3 small incisions are made into the abdomen and laparoscopic equipment is used to perform the procedure. Rock Lake Veterinary Care is the only veterinary clinic in Central WV that offers LOVE spays.
WHY LOVE SPAY?
-
Laparoscopic spays are 65% less painful than a traditional spay. This means a faster recovery and less trauma to the patient.
-
Activity restriction is only recommended for the first 2-3 days vs 7-10 days with a traditional spay.
-
Who is this for?
-
Any female dog that is 26lbs and bigger.
